A 24 year-old entrepreneur spends a week in New York looking for deserving organizations and individuals on this week’s episode of Secret Millionaire. The ABC reality series is a rarity on television these days as it promotes a positive message of hope and generosity. This week, Sean Belnick spends a week in Brooklyn, NY to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Keep reading to see how unsuspecting good Samaritans are rewarded for their wonderful work!

Sean visits the Friends of Firefighters organization, a not-for-profit corporation that began as a community-based group after the events of September 11, 2001. Members and volunteers of the organization explain to Sean their special mission. In the wake of the 9-11 attacks, thousands of active and retired firefighters responded and sadly, 343 members of the Fire Department of New York perished in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers. Shortly after the horrific events; community members brought dinners to exhausted rescue workers, coordinated funerals and memorials and listened to firefighters talk about what they saw and experienced. The organization has continued to offer therapeutic and mental health resources to active and retired firefighters and their families. Sean is touched by all that they do–including Nancy, who spends almost all of her time volunteering.

On his journey to give away a share of his fortunate, Sean meets with the staff behind Children of Promise. The organization is an after school program that helps children with incarcerated parents. Sean spends time listening to the amazing stories of inspiration from the children who are being helped by the organization. Many of the children explain how one or both of their parents are in prison and the numerous feelings they go through.

Sean makes out checks to the organizations he spent time with this week and gets ready for his big reveal. First Sean visits the Children of Promise organization and presents them with a check for $60,000. Officials say they had been hoping to purchase a van to take the kids to visit their incarcerated parents and now they will be able to do it! Next, Sean returns to the Friends of Firefightersorganization to donate $65,000 to the group. The firefighters can’t believe the 24 year-old is a millionaire and that he chose to help them! Nancy, a tireless volunteer also receives a $5,000 check to take a break and go on vacation with her family!
